Long division is a method for dividing large numbers digit-by-digit.
Divisor: The number that divides.
Dividend: The number that is to be divided.
Long Division Steps

- Setup: Write the dividend inside the division box, and the divisor outside the box.
- Divide: Look at the digit of the dividend. Determine how many times the divisor fits into it, and write the answer above the division box.
- Multiply: Multiply the divisor by the number you wrote above the division box.
- Subtract: Subtract the result from the digit or digits you are working with. Write the remainder below.
- Bring down: Bring down the next digit of the dividend next to the remainder.
- Repeat: Repeat the process until you’ve used all the digits in the dividend.
